Perennial of the YearPerennial of the Year

Each year the members of the Perennial Plant Association select a new Perennial Plant of the Year. We are pleased to announce and present the winner for 2009:

Golden-striped Japanese Forest Grass (Hakonechloa macra ‘Aureola’)


This long-season ornamental grass may be used as a groundcover, a border-front specimen, in a mass planting or in a patio container. The plant offers vivid highlights in shaded areas or in evening gardens. This grass is also noted for its movement in breezes, providing a cascading or undulating motion.
